2009 Hawaii: Road of Hana @ Maui

Sep, 2009

Imagine a road of 52 miles long with over 620 curves, 59 bridges (46 of them one lane), zig zagging along a lushy mountain with one side open to the blue Pacific, countless waterfalls and ponds hidden along the way, the air is misty and wet, filled with occasional fruity aroma from nearby fruit trees; some call this the road of heaven, and this is the Road of Hana.

2009 Hawaii: Pearl Harbor & Bowfin Submarine

Pearl Harbor tour is a remarkable experience for me. First of all, it is interesting to learn a bit about history on why US got bombed and how the Japanese managed to do that (or in a nasty tone, who screwed up). Secondly, the memorial is built in a unique style and position, bringing history close to the face. Thirdly, it feels like America there, hardly did we see any Japanese populations; afterall, the trip to Hawaii is a domestic trip.

Honolulu is well organized by public transportations, especially for tourists. Buses and trolleys are the main public transportations for us (no metros in Honolulu). With a bit of time on hand, they work great, but for time limited visitors, the trolley may not be the appropriate transportation.

2009 Hawaii: Itinerary

Sep, 2009

When I plan my travels, I always pick places that people call it “tough, exortic” or something along the line that is as remotely from comfort as possible. In my definition, “hawaii” is in the center of “comfort” and I always thought that I can always do Hawaii when I’m old because all Hawaii means to me is sitting at a beach and sipping Mai Tai; so I thought.
