I went to a lot of secluded places before visiting Italy. I do not doubt the beauty of Italy, I just thought it was overly developed in tourism and overpriced in everything. Until in October 2006 we found a good deal, Italy was finally a possible trip.

Alishan: We stayed in Shermuh Hotel (神木賓館) - http://www.shermuh.com.tw

If you’re going to Taiwan, knowing Chinese is definitely beneficial and you can enjoy a more local and authentic experience.  For non-Chinese speakers, Taiwan’s Tourism Bureau also has plenty of agencies to offer for services.

My experience with the Taiwan locals was that they were kind, friendly, social and open.  They enjoyed engaging in conversations and their services were caring, detailed and considerate.  They were patriotic and at the same time curious about the world outside of Taiwan.  I enjoyed Taiwan partially because I like Taiwan people, I hope you feel the same way after your visit.
