2008 Taiwan: Hot Spring in Taiwan

Super hot spring for view only.

Hot spring water has lots of benefits. I remembered when I was a teenager and travelled to Hainan Island in mainland China during a hot summer. My skin was oily and stuffy under hot and humid weather and pimples were popping here and there. One day we reached a town where the entire town’s water supply was hot spring mineral water. I bathed in those water during the night and the next few days my skin was smooth and oil-free that I hardly needed to press those oil absorbant paper onto my face. From then on, I felt in love with hot spring water.

So going to Taiwan, I insisted on having a hot spring bath. And unlike European hot spring where water temperature is close to human body temperature, Taiwan’s hot spring is HOT! Read the rest of this entry »

Alishan: We stayed in Shermuh Hotel (神木賓館) - http://www.shermuh.com.tw

If you’re going to Taiwan, knowing Chinese is definitely beneficial and you can enjoy a more local and authentic experience.  For non-Chinese speakers, Taiwan’s Tourism Bureau also has plenty of agencies to offer for services.

My experience with the Taiwan locals was that they were kind, friendly, social and open.  They enjoyed engaging in conversations and their services were caring, detailed and considerate.  They were patriotic and at the same time curious about the world outside of Taiwan.  I enjoyed Taiwan partially because I like Taiwan people, I hope you feel the same way after your visit.

2008 Taiwan: Fenchihu Station 奮起湖

Train station sign.

Although lately lots of tour guide books start to introduce this train station, I found it small and straight forward. Instead of calling it special, I believed that people had no other choices along the Alishan rail road. Indeed, the rest of the stations either had no establishments or little shops nearby, hence making this one famous and special.

2008 Taiwan: How to Travel in Eastern Taiwan (臺東) for One Day?

June 25th, 2008 CC Posted in Taiwan, Tips & Tools No Comments »

Mar, 2008
I made a mistake in my Eastern Taiwan planning so I had to spend 2 days there and not even did all the things I wanted to do. If planned properly, for one day, you can enjoy the sceneries of mountains and the pacific coast of Eastern Taiwan as well as enjoy hot spring and still have time to make it back to Taipei by night train.
